Dutch designers “take over” the Sofia Design Week 2010
June 4 – 11, 2010
Numerous Dutch designers and studios are joining this year’s Sofia
Design Week. The second edition of the festival will be held
between June 4th and June 11th under the motto “MORE or LESS”.
Lectures, exhibitions, presentations, debates and workshops will
present the achievements and the new trends in the field and will
search for the answer of the question “More or less design?”. The
citizens and visitors of Sofia will be able to meet some of the
most avant-garde names in the contemporary communication,
interactive and graphic design.
The main part of the program involves a two-day lecture forum. It
will take place on June 5th and 6th and will have predominantly
Dutch presence:
June 5th
11.30 – 12.30 Mevis en van Deursen, Graphic Design Studio;
17.30 – 18.30 Champagne Valentine, interactive and digital design
studio.
June 6th
10.30 – 11.30 Marieke Van Oudheusden, Curator at the Museum of
Graphic Design in Breda;
11.30 – 12.30 Luna Maurer, Graphic Designer;
16.30 – 17.30 Erik Kessels, KesselsKramer Advertising Agency.
The forum will take place in the Gallery for Foreign Arts on 19th
February str. The lectures will be in English, with simultaneous
translation provided. The lectures are the only content with paid
access in Sofia Design Week’s program. Access to both days comes at
the price of BGN 150. One-day access costs BGN 96. Students are
entitled to a 30 % discount.
Two Dutch names will become part of the “More or Less” exhibition,
which is the key exposition of Sofia design Week 2010 – the
multidisciplinary visual artist Helmut Smits and the KesselKramer,
advertising agency. The artworks will be presented at Sofia Art
Gallery at 1 Gurko str. between May 27th and June 20th.
Between May 31st and June 17th, the works of students from the
prestigious Dutch school for arts and design Rietveld Academy will
be exposed in Academy gallery of the National Academy of Arts.
The Netherlands will be represented also in the workshops format by
Henk Groenendijk and Dima Stefanova’s “Bird’s-Eye View”;
KesselsKramer’s “Do a plastic bag” and Chris Kabel, who will lead a
drawing of new map of Sofia.
Every day in the Yard of the National Academy of Arts there will be
open access talks and presentations, discussions, performances,
screenings and kids’ workshops. This is the place where the Dutch
interactive and digital design studio Champagne Valentine will
present some of its sets.
